Casting

6th July 2017

Here at Badapple Theatre we are now casting for two roles in the 3-hander ‘Salsa Verde’ (Aug-Oct 2017).

This is a world premiere tour of a new play by our Artistic Director Kate Bramley that continues her unique ‘brand’ of comic theatre that seamlessly blends music and physical performance. For the last decade we have excelled at installing a complete theatre experience within rural non-theatre spaces, supported by Arts Council England (small grants funding distributing funds from the National Lottery). This tour extends our creativity a step further as we integrate dance as an additional strand of the narrative alongside live music, puppetry and comedy.

‘Salsa Verde’ is set against the backdrop of the late 1990’s when a small village is awaiting the completion of the new Millennium Bridge that will connect them to their nearest rivals across the water. A huge Salsa Fiesta is planned to celebrate the occasion and Verde finds himself caught up in the preparations and a love triangle that is woefully reminiscent of his Grandad’s younger days as a wartime collier.

We are now seeking two versatile and cheerful performers to join our team, ideally available for auditions in the York area on 24th July to meet with Artistic Director Kate Bramley (ex Hull Truck) and other members of the creative team.

Closing date 18th July 2017- CV and headshot to kate@badappletheatre.com please.

PLEASE NOTE: We are actively seeking performers from all ethnic backgrounds.

SALSA VERDE:

Written and directed by Kate Bramley
Original songs and music by Jez Lowe (SONY Academy Award Winner for the BBC Radio Ballads)
Design by Catherine Dawn

World premiere of a brand new original comedy with music and dance.
Salsa Verde, or Green Sauce to give it a more local flavour, follows two different generations of characters where a romantic love-triangle seems destined to be repeated down the years. A wartime Bevan Boy and a navy recruit clash at the dance hall, as do another thoroughly modern duo fighting over the instructor at the local village hall Salsa night.
Classic Badapple comedy for all ages, with a bit of a song and a dance thrown in….
