Thanks to a recently confirmed project grant from Arts Council England of £27421 we are now casting for the remaining maale role for our upcoming rural touring production The Frozen Roman.

Badapple Theatre are a dedicated national rural touring company who have just celebrated twenty years of touring, led by Artistic Directors Kate Bramley (formerly of Sir John Godber’s Hull Truck Theatre) and Jez Lowe (SONY and ARIA award winning BBC Radio composer/songwriter and presenter).

The contract: A buyout fee of £6281 representative of 11 weeks contract (averaging £451 plus £120 touring allowance weekly)

Dates: Commencing 1st April 2019- final performance 23rd June.

Details: Three weeks rehearsal in rural North Yorkshire (York area) followed by tech/ tour week1 23rd-28th April, then national rural touring to 23rd June (6 full and 2 half weeks). Full tour schedule at One performance per day where the performers are responsible for assisting with full get-in/ get-out installation of stage/ set/ LX in a diverse range of non-theatre spaces under the direction of company technical manager. Also contributing to 2-3 Badapple Youth Theatre sessions under the direction of Youth Theatre leader, as part of this grant award is to further inspire our young actors by giving them the opportunity to be mentored by/ ask questions of our professional team.

The play: The Frozen Roman is a new comedy with original music by Kate Bramley and Jez Lowe.
It follows a group of hapless villagers who are racking their brains for new ways to fight the imminent housing development that threatens village life as they know it. The discovery of an ancient Roman site under foot may just throw them a lifetime if they can somehow authenticate their mysterious findings. But things aren’t always what they seem…

The roles: Both are physical comedy multi-role play parts with harmony singing and will suit performers who have experience of theatre touring, particularly with an awareness of the demands of touring to non-theatre spaces.


CASTING 2: MALE- playing age late twenties, early thirties. To convincingly portray a character of Syrian ethnicity (among others) and a knowledge of Arabic would be helpful but not necessary


Khaled- Esteemed Syrian Professor of Roman History at Damascus University, now refugee

AND Marcus- paranormal obsessive and old film aficionado, works at the local distribution centre

AND Penelope- elderly villager, friend of Mary, kind but somewhat prone to misunderstandings
